Why do we expexct Jehovah to be nice to people?
by Gill inwho said god had to be nice to anyone?
i was just reading gumby's thread on 'a big old lie' he'd found in the bible.. as far as i got reading, folks were discussing jehovah killing everyone most of the time and i suppose threatening to do again in the future, according to the wtbts.
but why do we expect god to be nice to people?

perhaps the Hebrew god, Yaweh ( Jehovah) was, like the Greek and Roman Gods; created BY MEN in the likeness of men....and along with that goes all the idiosyncricities of humans....
At least the Egyptians gave their gods physical attributes of animals and expected them to be ruthless

The Supremes Abolish 4th Amendment
by Amazing1914 injust a couple of days ago, the us supreme court ruled in a case that has demolished the 4th amendment which states:.
amendment iv: the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
previously, you were secure in your person, including your cloths, car, house, etc.

I am sure that the drug lords are a problem. This has actually BEEN a problem for some time.
Perhaps I feel the 9/11 tragedy more because; I am not threatened personaly by drug lords in New York, while they exist; they do not pose a threat to me or my way of life.
The terrorists that hit on 9/11 did disrupt my life in a very tthreatening way. I will never feel as carefree safe or secure in New York again; hesitate to bring my children into town for fear of a possible attack . New York is still on a high elevated alert . Major buildings and landmarks are targets.
It is a real fear that has become part of our lives. I resent living my life with such fear.

undercover....interesting quote by Ben Franklin....but we are no longer fighting the British ( at least some of us are not....)
Do you think that the forefathers of the Constitution ever envisioned a time when the freedoms of this country would be used to protect and harbor terrorists? Terrorists who are intent on destroying it?
I do not think they could have forseen the events that led up to 9/11; or the fact that this "home of the free and the brave" would be under attack from an enemy ; using our own laws and technology against us.
I am not sure what the answers are; but having been directly hit by the 9/11 events in New York and having lost 4 friends prematurely to what amounted to nothing more than a government unable to control or stop terrorists on our own soil; I can say that something has to be done....on EVERY level to prevent terrorist cells from any kind of future attack. I am not alone in that demand on the government.
Those of us who have nothing to hide are not perturbed by a search warrant. The government has ALWAYS had the ability to do whatever it wants in the name of NATIONAL SECURITY; so what freedom are we actually losing;
or was it an illusion of freedom we object to losing?

For those raised as JWs...
by Country Girl ini have found that while i can remember my childhood from ages 3-5, i can't remember much after that until i was 17 or so.
my mom came into the jws when i was 3, and i remember celebrating our last christmas.
it was a small christmas tree on the end table and it had a present for each of us (2 kids).

I recall as a JW child being very unhappy at school; being kept isolated; being the oddball kid; not many kids in the congregation to befriend. Being alone . A very unhappy childhood.
Things changed when I became a teenager. I was kept in very "theocratic" company and being a very zealous pioneer as I became an older teenger. The dice spun once again in my early 20s I decided that I wanted to go to college to study Architectre.
Life changed for the better when I left the jWs and has been improving ever since.

...at what cost; freedom?
while drug dealers may be of concern, the real threat these days is terrorism on American soil.
If this modification to the 4th amendment will help track down and catch any terrorist; many Americans will go along with it. Especially when we learn that the terrorists on the jets of 9/11 were in this country illegally and easily traceable through the DMV and phone records.

Snubbed by an eldub
by SadElder inhaven't been in the door of a khall in nearly a year and haven't had one visit from any of my old elder "buddies?".
did have two newer eldub idiots stop by about two months after i stopped completely.
told them that if they were there to complain and bitch then they might as well get their fat asses down the drive and not come back.. ran into a eldub that i served on the body with last weekend, he completely ignored me even when i acknowledged his existence.

yes, they snub me too. they expect us "apostates" to be possessed by demons; drug addicted homeless crazy peple; etc.
When we prove to them that we are actually doing well; both financially; emotionally and in every way prospering; they cannot accept this because it forces them to perhaps question that their faith is not, in fact , infalible.
We make them feel insecure about their faith. It is easier for them to ignore us.

The Old International assemblies
by pratt1 ini remember back in the lat 60's earlier 70's the international conventions.
i thought they were great and we always had dubs from around the world who would stay at our house for the assembly.. .
one of my best memories is about a group of young sisters from the mid wet who had never really known any black people who stayed at my house and stayed in our guest bedroom during the 7 day assembly .. .
